Year End MWST Results for Jenn

The year end Midwest Women’s Scratch Tournament (MWST) was held at Cedarvale Lanes on Sunday, March 30.

Jenn placed 12th out of 32 bowlers for the day solidifying her continued return to Tournament bowling.

Averaging 217 on the day, her scores for the 6-game match qualifier were:

226 - Win
180 - Loss
227 - Win
235 - Win
232 - Win
202 - Loss

Going into the 6th game of match play, Jenn was on the bubble for the Top 7 cut-off but wasn’t able to muster a win to drive into the Top 7 falling from 8th place to 12th.

Overall a great tournament. Next up is the Little Falls No Tap tournament on April 12th.

First MWST for Jenn of 2008

In Jenn’s continued return to tournament bowling, she bowled her first Midwest Women’s Scratch Tournament (MWST) on Sunday, February 24 at River City Extreme in Monticello.

Jenn finished in 14th place out of 31 bowlers.

Format is different than most tournaments as it is of course about total pins BUT increasing your total pins comes with match play qualifying. 6 games of match play for qualifying followed by whittling down to the top 7 to reach the finals.

While I didn’t make it into the top 7, I had another great tournaments and cashed making my money back and a little bit more. Overall scoring for the day was not near as high as usual thanks to a difficult condition, but overall very happy with the tournament result.

Thought this picture turned out pretty nice…

Jenn’s Best Series to Date!

After struggling all of last year, this year has been relatively good for me. I feel like I’m finally hitting my groove again in bowling. Between dieting and concentrating more, I feel good which I think helps to my overall success at bowling.

Monday night was just like any other night with the exception that I got to play “Secretary” for the league as our teammate Mark was out of town on vacation and asked me to fill in for the night. Apparently focusing my attention on to the secretary duties kept me away from worrying about what MIGHT go wrong with my bowling that night.

200-255-257-257 = 969 Series

My best ever series on Monday night and could be my best ever if memory serves correctly.

I easily could have had better:

2 missed spares and a small pin count the last frame of the first game. ( I missed a 7-pin and a 10-pin)

1 missed spare the 2nd game - 2-4-5 after a 6 bagger

All and all, a great night and I was very happy with my bowling. Felt great and feel like I’m finally hitting my stride. Only took a couple years to get back to it.

2008 - City Tournament - New Hope Bowl

Well, the last 2 weekends have consisted primarily of bowling the Minneapolis City Tournament at New Hope Bowl (in New Hope… duh).

The weeked of the 19th we bowled the team event with the Kangas crew, and then this past weeked (the 27th) Jenn and I bowled the singles and doubles event.

After a very good showing last year (I had something like 1950 for a 9 game total) I expected to do well this year as well seeing that it was once again at New Hope Bowl.

Team event started out well for us with Jenn shooting a 600 and my 620.

Still going good after singles, Jenn had a 618, I had a 645.

Then we ran into the doubles event… on good old lanes 1&2…. Jenn 520, Rod 523.  Miserable.  Was a combination of both the shot and the bowlers, no doubt.

We bowled with Kenny Worm and  Scott “Skippy” Pohl, and neither of them did anything spectacular either.  In fact Scott may not have had 600 in the doubles on 1&2.  (Which is saying something for the multi-term Team USA bowler).

Just prior to us moving to 1&2, Amanda Burgoyne had shot 299 on that pair, and several others bowling with her had shot in the 240 range as well.

Anyway… next tournament for us is the Mixed Doubles tourney we will be shooting with
Neil Klinepier and his sister Shannon Bauman at Maple Lanes in a couple weeks.

Jenn Comes Back to the Tournament Bowling World… with a Bang!

On Sunday (Jan 13th) Jenn entered her first competative women’s bowling tournament in at least 5 years.  The Minneapolis/St. Paul Queen’s tournament. To say she did well, would be an understatement.

She placed 12th overall, cashing in her first tournament back!

Qualifying consisted of 6 games:
258, 257, 169, 177, 188, 218 for a 1267 total and nabbing the 16th and final qualifying spot (averaging a hair over 211 in the process).

Match play was up next in double elimination format.
In round one of match play, Jenn defeated the tournament leader (Kim Wirth) 211 to 207.
From there she advanced to face Julie Patnode, losing 238 to 200.
Now in the loser’s bracket (and exhausted), she faced Kris Geister (aka Koskiniemi) and was eliminated 236 to 171.

All in all a very good showing!

Congrats Jenn!

My latest addiction…

Well, for the holidays we picked up a new Nintendo Wii gaming system.  A little more “active” gaming system then anything we had prior.  You actually have motion sensitive controllers, so things like playing tennis (you literally swing at the ball), bowling (you literally swing and release the ball… as well as rotate for curve/hook).  Quite the ingenious little device.

Then… we ordered…
GH3
… and the world will never be the same again…

I am addicted to trying to keep up with the scrolling chords, rythms, and raucous guitar solos… playing songs from ZZ-top, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath and many many more.

Talk about a party machine!

Jenn and I first saw and played the Guitar Hero when some friends brought over a version for our old PS2 gaming system. While I found it interesting, I had no idea how addictive it could be until it I started working in “career” mode on the game. Slowly learning and improving, until you simply can’t put the thing down. Must get closer to perfection… must hit all the notes… must… must… must… must get some sleep.

Anyway, anyone who stops over now can experience this “Wonder of the World” first hand.

Later y’all

Rod

Almost

Took another run at it last night…

260 - 278 - ………….199 (Ack!) = 737

Shot blew out really bad the 5th frame of the last game, and I simply couldn’t catch up with it again in time to salvage a really big set.  Oh well.
